Wildcat

Adrian DavisAdrian Davis has over 25 years experience in biological survey, conservation, environmental issues and training.

He has extensive experience in Phase 1 Habitat Survey and National Vegetation Classification including large scale projects such as the Upland Vegetation Survey for Scottish Natural Heritage in 2003. 

He has also led on large scale mammal surveys such as the Scottish Wildcat Survey for Scottish Natural Heritage between 2006-2009. 

He currently delivers environmental courses and presentations for a range of environmental topics including windfarm and hydro power schemes with a particular interest in renewables and sustainable buildings.

Adrian has director level experience and has appeared at a number of public enquiries as an expert witness. Leadership of environmental professionals, lecturing and academic research are part of his extensive portfolio.

Adrian currently manages the Wildcat Haven project over the winter in Lochaber.  This is a leading research project to safeguard Scottish WIldcats for future generations (see wildcat section).

Scope of Work

Ecological surveys

  • Phase I habitat, NVC and other survey methods for botanical monitoring
  • Habitat condition assessments and habitat restoration advice
  • Faunal surveys including deer, otters, bats, wildcats and badger surveys
  • Ornithological surveys: Moorland Bird surveys, Common Bird Census and wildfowl and wader counts.

Advice on protected wildlife sites and species.

  • Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Nature Reserves and EC Habitats and Species Directives and local designations
  • Habitat and species management plans
  • Collation and evaluation of habitat and species data for wildlife assessment
  • Advice on protected species such as bats, badgers and otters.

Environmental Impact Assessment, planning and habitat restoration

  • Ecological impact assessment of development impacts and reports
  • Mitigation of development impacts on wildlife including road, mining and housing proposals
  • Advice on environmentally sensitive planning and development
  • Habitat restoration advice and planning
  • Ecological Clerk of Works
  • Management of construction projects and organisational advice on environmental responsibilities

Environmental education, training and interpretation planning

  • Presentations/talks on environmental education and interpretive planning
  • Development of eco-tourism projects
  • Access and rights of way advice and planning

Ecological advisor and habitats and species advisor for planning inquiries

  • Preparation of advice, statements and precognitions to planning inquiries
  • Appearance at planning inquiries as an expert witness

Adrian leads the field studies and research for the Scottish Wildcat Association www.scottishwildcats.co.uk on the Wildcat Haven project in Lochaber, west Scotland.
